This highly interactive workshop provides participants the opportunity to learn and apply practical proactive skills and techniques that build respect and engagement with students. Research shows this positive classroom environment enables teachers to more readily keep students on task, redirect off-task behavior, and address consistent non-compliant behavior without loss of instructional time.
Improving Professional Power in the Classroom: Individual Coaching Mentoring©
Working with individual teachers, a PCM Associate with extensive classroom experience, provides immediate "off the record" feedback and tips to address the classroom management challenges of specific classes. Teachers are coached on skills and strategies to keep students on-task and immediately redirect off-task behavior. They are also supported as they apply proven skills to address consistently inappropriate behavior. Additionally, teachers learn to work proactively and collaboratively with challenging students so minor classroom conflicts among students, and between students and teachers, can be reduced.
Behavior Management from A to Z©
The ABC's of proper behavior in the classroom are social emotional skills which must be mastered for learning to occur throughout a child's school experience. During this highly interactive and experiential workshop participants explore diverse behavior patterns and communication styles, identify personal characteristics of successful students, and develop creative, pro-active, and easy-to-implement techniques to better adapt, react and respond to day to day situations. This workshop can be adapted for delivery to elementary and middle school students, staff and/or parents.
Keeping It in the Classroom: Encouraging and Engaging Students to Create a Successful Classroom Environment©
Managing a diverse classroom where all students remain engaged and on-task is often a challenge for even the most experienced educator. Despite a teacher's best efforts, his/her interventions are not always successful, and disruptive students are removed from class or suspended from school. This highly interactive workshop explores common scenarios which lead to classroom removal or suspension. Participants learn and practice new, practical, and easy to implement techniques that provide incentives and opportunities for students to take increased personal responsibility for assisting their teacher in creating a positive learning climate.

Strategies for Teachers of English Language Learners and Special Education Students in General Education Classes©
Many teachers confident about teaching their subjects to general education students do not feel adequately prepared to meet the demanding needs of Special Education students, and/or those students with a limited understanding of English. In this workshop, teachers learn strategies to successfully teach these youngsters in their general education classes while continuing to provide excellent content area instruction to all students. Paraprofessionals who support English Language Learners and Special Education students in general education classes will also gain new insights as they dialogue with teachers about the challenges they face as colleagues.

Collaborative Team Teaching (CTT) provides a unique opportunity for mainstream and special education teachers to work together to create a classroom environment where differentiated instruction is utilized to optimize learning. This highly interactive workshop provides multiple opportunities for CTT teachers to learn and practice research based and field tested skills and techniques which maximize the skills of each teacher and appeal to the learning styles of all students. Case Conferencing: Designing Interventions to Maximize Student Success©
Every school seeks a proactive method of supporting students, reducing discipline incidents, and increasing passing and graduation rates. Research shows one of the more effective methodologies to achieve these goals is to establish an ongoing system of Case Conferencing. This workshop assists educators in small schools, large schools divided into Small Learning Communities or houses, and/or on Special Education and IEP teams to use Case Conferencing to monitor and improve students' progress. Participants learn how to review student performance and design interventions to support students and prevent failure. This workshop is designed for schools planning on introducing Case Conferencing, or schools wanting to improve existing case Conferencing strategies and techniques.
Literacy for All Learners: Creative Strategies for Supporting ELL, At-Risk and Special Needs Populations©
How can we make reading, writing, and listening and speaking skills accessible and positive for students with diverse abilities? This workshop weaves together best practices for literacy with creative arts, multi-lingual content and core academic ELA Standards. Participants explore different ways to teach reading, writing, listening and speaking using hands-on activities which motivate students to want to learn. During Day 2 participants identify personal learning styles and develop reproducible literacy templates (adult workshops only) which can be adapted to individual literacy needs to make literacy a positive and successful experience for all! This workshop can be adapted for delivery to elementary and middle school students, staff and/or parents.
Improving the Literacy Skills of Elementary School Learners©
Literacy development is essential to the academic success of all students. In this hands-on workshop, participants explore the dynamics of literacy development of elementary school students, including ELL and special needs children. Participants work collaboratively to break down literacy into the four core topics of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. They also explore diverse methodologies to create and teach engaging lesson plans geared to multiple learning levels and abilities. The workshop will culminate in the development of Literacy Kits and Actions Plans.
Keep It Moving: Engaging Youth through Interactive Teaching Strategies©
Working with today's young people in the classroom, in advisories, and/or in after-school programs, though rewarding, can often prove to be challenging to even the most seasoned professional. This interactive and experiential workshop addresses this challenge by assisting teachers in incorporating psychologist Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligence's into their daily lesson planning. Participants work collaboratively to learn and practice activities which engage students by infusing experiential activities including creative writing, drama, music, and creative play into their lessons.

Parents are sometimes an underutilized resource to which teachers can turn to maximize the success of their students. In this highly interactive workshop teachers learn and practice practical techniques to increase parental involvement and maximize their interaction with parents. Topics and activities include: Strategies to Communicate more Effectively and Consistently with Parents, Creating a Parent and Student "Needs Assessment" and "Work-Plan", and Connecting with Culturally Diverse Populations.
Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century ©
Teaching strategies have changed since many of today's teachers were in school. This highly interactive workshop assists teachers in providing students with the skills needed for success in the 21st Century. Teachers will be introduced to "low tech" methods of student engagement as well as the use of the Internet to develop these essential skills. This workshop targets the teacher who knows the essentials of computer use but would like to learn to use the Internet to teach today's students in the way many students enjoy learning. (Please note: Computer/Internet access is required for each teacher during the workshop)

Working productively and collaboratively in groups is a 21st Century skill essential to success in today's classrooms and in the global workplace. Participants in this highly interactive workshop learn and practice proficiencies necessary to achieve positive outcomes during each stage of group development. This highly interactive workshop uses videos, current research, and hands-on activities to share strategies and methodologies to assist teachers in infusing these skills into daily content instruction.
Connecting and Communicating Effectively with Culturally Diverse Students and Their Families ©
The cultural diversity of our urban classrooms presents unique rewards and challenges. During this highly interactive workshop teachers learn and practice skills and techniques to assist them in bridging and sustaining positive connections with their diverse student population and their parents. Workshop participants explore hands-on activities and explore best practices which promote cross-cultural understanding. Participants also learn to use music, art and storytelling to bridge communication gaps which may exist due to language or cultural barriers.
"You're a Racist"...Language Which Keeps Us Confused ©
As educators we know words have the power to hurt or heal. Participants in this highly interactive workshop use music, current events, and share personal experiences to collaboratively take a close look at the origins, historical context and meanings of highly charged words and phrases including, "That's so gay.", "The N-word", "Minority", and "You're a racist!". Through honest discussions, in a safe and open learning environment, teachers gain insights and awareness around how language impacts relationships among students, parents, and colleagues.
Guidance Strategies for Meeting the Needs of At-Risk Students ©
Teachers of At-risk students face special challenges in their classrooms. During this highly interactive workshop teachers work collaboratively with a facilitator is a former teacher, guidance counselor, and assistant principal of guidance to learn and practice skills and techniques to successfully address the challenges of at-risk youth including. These challenges include manipulative behavior, academic failure, suicide, substance abuse, bullying, chronic absenteeism, and poor classroom behavior.

This highly interactive and customized training provides participants the opportunity to learn and practice the skills and techniques necessary to integrate conflict resolution skills into their school culture. After learning how to conduct a successful mediation, participants work collaboratively to create an Action Plan to turnkey these skills to students, and are supported as the set up a student-centered Peer Mediation Center.

This highly interactive workshop, facilitated by a former NYC DOE Dean of Discipline, provides teachers the opportunity to collaboratively learn and practice field tested classroom management and crisis prevention skills and strategies with immediate classroom application. The world in which we live is becoming increasingly smaller as the global community becomes more interdependent. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 20% of the population of the United States speaks a language other than English at home. Educators and adults who work with culturally diverse populations benefit from learning enhanced diversity skills including language sensitivity and effective management of culturally diverse groups. In this experiential workshop, participants learn and practice hands-on techniques that address critical diversity issues including racism, sexism and intra-group tensions. Participants will then work collaboratively to develop Action Plans which promote an environment where all are valued and respected.

Teaching in an urban classroom is demanding, challenging and rewarding. Often overlooked are the stress levels many teachers face in this setting. This workshop provides an opportunity for participants to learn about the root "triggers" of stress in a work environment, and assists them in identifying skills and techniques that will enable them to monitor and reduce their stress throughout the school day.
