  • This workshop provides new and veteran teachers with proactive skills and strategies to keep students on task redirect off-task behavior and address consistent non-compliant behavior (1-2 Days).

  • Behavior Management Techniques for the 21st Century Teacher:
  • Teachers more than ever need a bag full of strategies to be able to effectively work with young people, particularly at-risk youth, today. This interactive and experiential workshop is designed to give teachers the techniques they need to effectively manage their classrooms and support student learning. Through engaging activities, thought provoking discussion and sharing, participants will learn proven field tested strategies on how improve their relationships with students, avoid communication obstacles, develop communication skills that promote positive dialogue, learn how to establish a classroom "group promise" and how to de-escalate volatile situations. The methods presented are based upon a youth development philosophy rather than a punitive and authoritative approach (1-2 Days).

  • Conflict Management in the Classroom:
  • This highly interactive workshop will empower teachers to integrate conflict resolution competency skills into their interactions with students. Tapping into their Personal Power©, teachers will learn and practice skills and techniques to build respect and engagement with students. Using field tested strategies and real life application, participants will learn how to work proactively and collaboratively with challenging students so that minor classroom conflicts between students and students and between students and teachers can be reduced (1 Day).

  • Making Advisories Matter:
  • Advisory provides for improved dialogue between school and students, academic advising and coaching, increased connections among students and staff and greater personalization for all students. School tone improves and discipline incidents decline in schools with effective advisories. This workshop provides a hands on guide to creating and supporting a successful advisory program. Goals, topics and strategies for advisory offered in this interactive presentation increase teachers' skills as advisors. This workshop is designed for schools planning to begin advisory or those hoping to improve an existing advisory program (1 Day).

  • Case Conferencing.Designing Interventions to Maximize Student Success:
  • Every school seeks a proactive method of supporting students, reducing incidents, and increasing passing and graduation rates. One of the most effective ways to achieve these goals is to establish an ongoing system of case conferencing. This workshop will assist educators in small schools, in large schools divided into Small Learning Communities or houses, and on Special Education and IEP teams to use case conferencing to monitor and improve students' progress. Through the systematic steps described in this presentation, educators will learn how to review student performance and design interventions to support students and prevent failure. Students will not fall through the cracks, but will be monitored and assisted in an effective and consistent manner. This workshop is designed to assist a school to begin case conferencing or one that wants to improve existing case conferences (1 Day).

  • Improving Professional Power in the Classroom.Individual Coaching/Mentoring:
  • Working with individual teachers, a PCM associate provides immediate "off the record" feedback and tips to address the classroom management challenges of specific classes. Teachers will be coached on skills and strategies to keep students on task, redirect off-task behavior and address consistently inappropriate behavior. Additionally, teachers will learn to work proactively and collaboratively with challenging students so that minor classroom conflicts between students as well as between students and teachers can be reduced.(Number of days based on school need)

  • Maximizing Performance in a Multicultural Classroom:
  • This workshop provides teachers with skills and strategies to build respect and increase the engagement among students with diverse cultural backgrounds. Participants will learn to work proactively to create a respectful classroom where all students have the opportunity to succeed (1/2 Day).

  • Strategies for Teachers of English Language Learners and Special Education Students in General Education Classes:
  • Many teachers who are confident about teaching their subjects to general education students do not feel adequately prepared to meet the demanding needs of Special Education students or those with a limited understanding of English. Teachers will learn strategies to successfully teach these youngsters in their general education classes while continuing to provide excellent content area instruction for all of their students. Paraprofessionals who support English Language Learners and Special Education students in general education classes will also gain new insights from this workshop as they dialogue with teachers about the challenges they face together (1 Day).

  • Leadership Skills for the 21st Century:
  • 80% of what students learn in schools today is different from what students were taught just twenty years ago. Partnership for 21st Century Skills has identified important skills for students in the 21st Century that include: Leadership, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Global Awareness, and Life and Career Skills. This highly interactive workshop uses videos, current research, and hands on activities to share strategies and methodologies for working towards the mastery of these skills (1 Day).

  • Building a High Performing Conflict Resolution Program:
  • This highly interactive workshop will assist participants to tap into their Personal Power©, as they learn and practice the skills and techniques necessary to integrate conflict resolution skills into their school culture. Participants will learn and practice mediation skills and work collaboratively to plan to turnkey those skills to students and set up a student-centered Peer Mediation Center (3-4 Days).

  • Moving Beyond the Melting Pot: New Strategies for Building Cultural Competency:
  • The world in which we live is becoming increasingly smaller as the global community is becoming more interdependent. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 20% of the population speaks a language other than English at home. Educators and adults who work with culturally diverse populations must learn the requisite skills (e.g. language sensitivity, effective group management, etc.) to meet the needs of these groups. In this experiential workshop, participants will learn new hands-on techniques aimed at addressing such critical diversity issues as racism, sexism and intra-group tension (conflict between members of the same group) as well as learn strategies for promoting an environment where all are respected (1 Day).

  • Get It Together! Building Community through Teambuilding and Dialogue:
  • We've all heard the adage, "no man is an island". However, in the real world, sometimes there are challenges to dealing with others. Participants in this interactive workshop will be led through a series of highly engaging activities aimed at building group cohesion, followed by a debriefing of the activities to explore the benefits and struggles of working cooperatively with others in various settings. Participants will also share best practices developed at their own sites to gain insight from their peers (1 Day).

  • Get the Job Done: Tools for Success in the Work Environment:
  • In recent months, 44 states and the District of Columbia recorded over-the month unemployment rate increases. In this unstable work environment, employers are looking to maximize the potential of their employees so that their organizations can meet the needs of their clients as effectively as possible. In this workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of workplace etiquette including: developing positive relationships with colleagues and clients, appropriate dress, organization and time management (1 Day).

  • Keep It Moving: Engaging Youth through Interactive Teaching Strategies:
  • Working with young people in the classroom or in after-school programs can prove to be challenging. Even the most seasoned professional can be at a loss for ideas of how to work with their students. This workshop will incorporate psychologist, Howard Gardner's Theory of multiple intelligences to engage participants in experiential activities using various strategies such as creative writing, drama, music, and creative play (1Day).

  • Facilitation 101:
  • Workshop facilitation is a skill, an art and a science all rolled into one. To be able to take a group of people through a shared experience and give them a greater insight into a topic is no easy task. During the course of this workshop, participants will learn basic facilitation techniques including: setting a tone for the workshop, giving directions properly, debriefing activities effectively and troubleshooting/dealing with difficult participants.   • Using International Music & Global Games to Teach World Culture & International Issues:
  • It's no secret that young people love both music and games. The purpose of this workshop is to teach educators how to use two mediums that youth gravitate towards to engage them in learning about world cultures and international issues. Participants will be able to turn-key activities from this training to their students. Participants will also learn how to make the activities and materials used in the workshop age-appropriate.   • Going Beyond Test Prep...Making Data Work for You:
  • Topics to be covered include: Using Standardized Assessment Results to Inform Teaching Methods and Individualize Instruction, Designing On-going Assessment Techniques, Interpreting Student Specific Data to Differentiate Instruction, Articulating Student Needs Through Data Interpretation, Over-coming Over Testing and Keeping all Eyes on Learning (1 Day).

  • Skills and Strategies for Managing Conflict:
  • Conflict is a natural part of life, one that we cannot avoid. This highly interactive training will give participants the tools they need to manage day to day conflicts. Through engaging activities, thought provoking discussion and sharing, participants will develop strategies for transforming conflict into opportunities for positive change and improving relationships. Participants will examine their thoughts and perceptions about conflict and will learn proactive approaches to keep conflict from occurring, steps to resolve it once it has materialized and strategies to use when all else fails. This workshop can also be adapted for parents and/or students (1 Day).

  • Communicating So People Listen and Hear You:
  • Effective communication skills can lead to improved relationships, successful careers and a confident self image. To be a good communicator you must understand what your message is, what audience you are sending it to, and how it will be perceived. You must also weigh-in the circumstances surrounding your communications, such as situational and cultural context. In this highly interactive workshop participants will learn proven techniques that teach how to express yourself clearly and confidently, constructively give and receive feedback and communicate effectively through active listening skills (1 Day).
