An Invitation from Sue Collins
As an educator for over thirty years in the New York City pubic school system, I understand the challenges of managing an urban school are unique. As a classroom teacher and dean of discipline at a large urban school I quickly came to understand that for the learning process to take place effectively students, parents and educators must operate in a safe and inclusive environment. I also learned first hand that although security officials like me were essential to keeping a school safe, we were only part of the solution. To create and maintain a safe learning environment all stakeholders require the skills necessary to be part of the solution.
My personal mission continues to be to provide these skills to the hard working people who work diligently each and every day to make our urban schools a success.
