  • Strengthening Your School’s Counseling and College Preparation Program ©
    Implementing an effective guidance counseling and college preparation/admissions program is vital to student success. During this highly interactive workshop a PCM Senior Associate who is a former guidance counselor, principal, and district Supervisor of Pupil Personnel/Guidance Services assists principals and their guidance team in developing strategies to enhance the school’s guidance/counseling and/or college preparation program. Strategies covered may include a review and reorganization of the school guidance program, the development of a comprehensive school wide four year plan for college preparation and admissions, and/or the development of an advisory program to provide support for middle and/or high school students. Individual coaching to support Assistant Principals of Guidance/Pupil Personnel Services, guidance counselors, and teachers in their challenging work is also available.

  • Case Conferencing: Designing Interventions to Maximize Student Success ©
    Every school seeks a proactive method of supporting students, reducing discipline incidents, and increasing passing and graduation rates. Research shows one of the more effective methodologies to achieve these goals is to establish an ongoing system of Case Conferencing. This workshop assists educators in small schools, large schools divided into Small Learning Communities or houses, and/or on Special Education and IEP teams to use Case Conferencing to monitor and improve students' progress. Participants learn how to review student performance and design interventions to support students and prevent failure. This workshop is designed for schools seeking to introduce Case Conferencing, or schools wanting to improve existing Case Conferencing strategies and techniques.

  • Guidance Strategies for Meeting the Needs of At-Risk Students ©
    Designed for guidance and/or teaching staff, this highly interactive workshop address how to successfully deal with challenging and manipulative behavior, academic failure, suicide, substance abuse, bullying, chronic absentism, and poor classroom behavior. A multimedia approach is used to deliver instruction, and objectives are met through discussion and individual and group activities. Guidance staff develop an Action Plan they can immediately implement in their school.

  • Coaching/Mentoring of Guidance Staff in Writing Action Plans for At-Risk Students ©
    Working with guidance personnel, Child Study Teams, and/or Pupil Personnel Teams (PPT's), a PCM associate with experience as a guidance counselor and Assistant Principal Pupil Personnel Services, assists participants in deigning and implementing customized individual Action Plans for students experiencing academic failure in the classroom and/or social/emotional challenges in their lives. The goal of the coaching/mentoring is to reduce the number of referrals to Special Education.

  • Everything You Wanted to Know About Guidance But Were Afraid to Ask ©
    The role of the guidance team is paramount in supporting all students. This workshop focuses on various initiatives which guidance counselors can employ when working with students. Topics to be covered include: Graduation Requirements, Making Classroom Presentations, Role of the Pupil Personnel Team (PPT), Articulation, Supporting At-Risk Students, Partnering with Parents, and Working with Members of the School Community. Participants will leave with tips to assist them in becoming an invaluable asset to students and the school community.

  • Building a High Performing Pupil Personnel Team (PPT) ©
    Every school is required to have a Pupil Personnel Team. The Pupil Personnel Team is the first step in early identification of at-risk students, offering supports to students and their parents. A strong PPT is able to reduce referrals to Special Education, decrease student suspension rate and target assistance for students at-risk to increase their academic and social/emotional success. This workshop offers participants the skills needed to establish a viable PPT in their school. Topics to be covered include: Establishing the Team, Identifying and Recruiting Team Members, Rolling Out the PPT to the Staff, and Developing the Forms for the Team to be Fully Operational.

  • Getting Your Students Ready for Graduation: The Nuts and Bolts of the Process ©
    New and experienced guidance counselors are sometimes overwhelmed by the many and frequently changing, requirements and regulations necessary for graduation. This workshop sets the stage for guidance counselors with all levels of experience and expertise to work collaboratively as they share the most recent information on the high school graduation process and share their individual "tips" on how to organize and streamline the process. Topics to be covered include: Transcript Review, High School Graduation Requirements (City and State Regulations), and Certification of Graduates.
